Walker Learning Approach
The Walker Learning Approach is concerned about the experience of pupils and is a 'pedagogy that places the child at the centre of the curriculum and teaching strategies’ (The Walker Learning Approach 2014). Last year, I was able to work off this platform of practical strategies provided to FTGN, where I noted the high levels of student engagement and the encouragement of independent learners.
As a constructivist, who is a huge advocate of student-teacher relationships and inquiry-based learning, this approach really resonated with my teaching philosophy. To work hand in hand with educators who value and promote ‘student empowerment, engagement and ownership’ in their classrooms, was truly remarkable (Walker 2011). I truly loved how all aspects of the curriculum consolidated with one another, to create more meaning for students.
